Buying and owning ancient coins.

I'm sure you may be wondering where you can buy ancient coins? The truth is many of the coins featured on this website can be bought quite easily due to the fact they were struck/minted in vast numbers. Their value depends on the grade (ie. how clear the image is), the overall condition of the coin and, of course, their availability. I have a nice collection shown above and, believe me, I'm not a millionaire.

Let’s take the coin of Antonius Felix, for example. You can purchase his coin in nice condition for £30.00 / $40.00…but a Pontius Pilate coin in the same condition may cost three times that amount. With a really good example maybe even costing ten times that amount . A tribute penny/denarius is even more expensive as they are in much more demand. You obviously wouldn't want to buy a very low quality coin that the image is barely visible on, although they are available.

The first place people consider is eBay and there are some good sellers there, but you need to be very careful. I have bought all my coins through VCoins, so from reputable dealers and if you are interested in buying a coin I recommend you start there. You can use the search there for "Herod the great" for example to browse and check out prices. It is slightly more expensive, but you know you are buying a genuine ancient coin.

One of these coins would make an amazing gift to any Bible student as most people are blown away by the fact that it is possible to buy a coin that was being carried about Judea during the time of Christ and the early church. A good magnifying glass is also recommended. I use a luminated x4 magnification and they are not very expensive.

I hope you have enjoyed viewing the coins and it has been a pleasure for me to present them to you.
