Judea Capta Coin 81-96 AD

This Capta coin is one of a series of coins issued over a period of 25 years by the Emperor Vespasian and his sons Titus and Domitian to commemorate the victory over Judea and the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem by Titus in AD70. This bronze coin was struck at Caesarea Maritima in Judea. It is 21mm in diameter weighs 8.57g. The obverse shows the image of Domitian and the reverse depicts the Roman pagan goddess Minerva (Athena) erecting a trophy and holding a shield and spear.

The Arch of Titus in Rome was constructed by Domitian in AD81 to commemorate the victory of his father Vespasian and brother Titus over the Jewish rebellion. It depicts spoils taken from the Temple in Jerusalem including the golden Menorah (shown in the image above).

The Lord Jesus Christ predicted the siege of Jerusalem and the destruction of the temple almost 40 years before it happened. He said that not one stone of the Temple would be left upon another (Matthew 24v1-2). The Roman legion, led by the Emperors son Titus, burned the temple and it is said some of the gold it was overlaid with melted and dripped between the huge stones leading the soldiers to rip the temple apart brick by brick in the search for gold.

If this is not incredible enough - the death of the Messiah, siege and destruction of the temple were all predicted hundreds of years before they happened circa 538BC. Daniel 9v26 reads, “Shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. Let's look at how that prophecy was fulfilled - "Shall Messiah (Jesus Christ) be cut off (be killed), but not for himself (for sins of others): and the people (Romans) of the prince (Titus) that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary". The words in brackets are added to give meaning to how the prophecy was fulfilled. Note - the Messiah is killed then later the city and sanctuary destroyed in the correct order.

What an incredible book the Bible is! It also predicts many things that are yet to happen, including the return of Jesus Christ - the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  If He returned today would it be as your saviour or as your judge?
